چکیده

Context. Previous studies show significant north–south asymmetries for various features and indicators of solar activity. These findings suggest some decoupling between the two hemispheres over cycle evolution, which is in agreement with dynamo theories. For most important activity index, sunspot numbers, so far only limited data are available independently. Aims. The aim this study to create a continuous series daily monthly hemispheric numbers (HSNs) from 1874 2020, will be continuously expanded future HSNs provided by SILSO. Methods. Based on measurements areas 2016 Greenwich Royal Observatory National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration, we derive relative fractions northern southern applied international number (ISN) HSNs. This method obtained validated against published period 1945–2004 those SILSO 1992 2016. Results. We provide catalogue daily, mean, 13-month smoothed mean time range 1874–2020 –fully covering cycles 12 24– that consistent newly calibrated ISN (Clette et al., 2014). Validation reconstructed direct since 1945 reveals high level consistency, Pearson correlation coefficients r = 0.94 (0.97) (monthly mean) data. cumulative 12–24 give value 16%, no obvious pattern predominance evolution. strongest asymmetry occurs no. 19, hemisphere shows cumulated 42%. phase shift peaks may up 28 months, absolute 16.8 months. shifts reveal an overall reaching its maximum earlier (in 10 out 13 cases), signed −7.6 Relating HSN peak growth rates during rise amplitude higher correlations when considering individually, ≈ 0.9. Conclusions. Our further evidence degree evolves independently hemispheres, demonstrate empirical prediction methods can improved investigating dynamics terms

Hemispheric Sunspot Numbers Rn and Rs: Catalogue and N-S asymmetry analysis

Sunspot drawings are provided on a regular basis at the Kanzelhöhe Solar Observatory, Austria, and the derived relative sunspot numbers are reported to the Sunspot Index Data Center in Brussels. From the daily sunspot drawings, we derived the northern, Rn, and southern, Rs, relative sunspot numbers for the time span 1975– 2000. In order to accord with the International Sunspot Numbers Ri, the R...

Objective Calibration of Sunspot Numbers

Waldmeier [1971] found a very tight relationship between the F10.7 solar radio flux and the sunspot number and suggested using the flux for an objective calibration of the sunspot number. He suggested that if this relationship changed later on, the sunspot number should be recalibrated, assuming that the calibration must have drifted with time. I repeat his analysis using data up to the present...

BHP universality in sunspot numbers fluctuations

We analyze the famous Wolf’s sunspot numbers. The time series shows a mean period with duration of 133 months. We observed that the mean period consists of two equal sized phases, descendent and ascendent, that can be well fitted by two ortogonal lines. The sunspot numbers standard deviation period is well fitted by a sine function. We discovered that the distribution of the sunspot number fluc...

Forecasting Sunspot Numbers with Neural Networks

This paper presents a feedforward neural network approach to sunspot forecasting. The sunspot series were analyzed with feedforward neural networks, formalized based on statistical models. The statistical models were used as comparison models along with recurrent neural networks. The feedforward networks had 24 inputs (depending on the number of predictor variables), one hidden layer with 20 ...

BHP universality and gaussianity in sunspot numbers fluctuations

We analyze the famous Wolf’s sunspot numbers. We discovered that the distribution of the sunspot number fluctuations is a mixture of the BHP distribution with the Gaussian distribution.
